I started this project because I have a big fascination about time and how we human beings deal with it. There are two types of time; clock time and perception of time. Nobody can fully live to the clock time or the other way around. My opinion is that you have to find a balance between those two. The material you see is an experiment about my research how to visualize those two types of time.
When you are a child you live in a bubble where in time can not reach you. When you get older the bubble is getting thinner and thinner. Eventually when you are an adult you do not live in that bubble anymore. But at some points in your life you are in your bubble again. The moments of euphoria are the moments you are in your bubble. Besides that the wind stands for the time ; time lasts (tijd duurt). The bells dancing true the wind in time. Every bell/human is apart and experience their own sense of time. Sometimes time flies and some times it crawls. These movies represent that given.
Movies lasts (filmpjes duren) and picture are timeless. Movies always have a start and an end while pictures are captured moments in time. In this photo series I tried to capture perception of time and clock time. By playing with the shutter speed arises a world that we can not see with our own eyes.
PERCEPTION OF TIME
Sensitive Immeasurable Unnameable Hazy
Insensitive Measurable Nameable Clear
This is a movie with a dancer who combines the two types of time. You can see she dances like a modern dancer and sometimes like a classical ballet dancer. These movements represent perception of time and clock time. I made an installation with this movie where you can control the speed of the movie. With your own movements you can decide if the movie is playing delayed or at high speed. At this way you can experience that you can control your own perception of time.
